The designs are based on horses I know personally and horses I’ve never met: storybook steeds, movie ponies and even a couple of internet-famous stud stallions. Each piece comes with an illustrated card that you can colour. Keep the card, or give it to a friend. Gift it to a horse crazy kid and hear a thousand facts about the colour they choose.
About Me
I’m an interdisciplinary artist, living and working on unceded Coast Salish territories. I currently spend my time between Vancouver, B.C. ( xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ), Gibsons (Skwxwú7mesh ) and Roberts Creek (shíshálh).
prancer is a new project that brings together threads from my other work, some of which you can see here. I cross many disciplines to make art about the culture of nature, using the cultivated to speak to the wild. Most of my projects are immersed in the communities and aesthetics that gather around outdoor work and leisure. While my home practice is as a writer and performer, my work always has a strong materials component and usually involves costumes of some kind. I’ve hiked the Czech countryside dressed like a cowgirl, hand-painted a massive set of duck decoys and am currently writing and crocheting for a musical about professional mermaids. My favourite things tend to be those that just elude me. I appreciate unpredictable materials and having to work for an idea. Which brings me to horses…
Three years ago, I impulsively bought a 24-year old Arab-Warmblood named “Monet”, without knowing the first thing about real-life horses. Since then, I’ve found myself walking the vast distance between the pony books I read as a kid, and what it means to know an actual horse. The story I’m trying to tell with prancer is about getting to something worthwhile through slow time and close attention. And, the way that changes what you’re willing to chase.
We’re only at the beginning and I would love to tell you more. You can meet Monet and my other dear collaborators by following me through the links below.
