About:

One of the most intriguing bands to emerge in Canada during the early 1990s, Garbo's Hat is an avant-garde trio consisting of vocalist Kate Hammett-Vaughan, bassist Paul Blaney, and Graham Ord (on tenor, soprano, and flute) that is connected to the tradition. Never shy to display humor or to caress melodies, this unit is quite creative as it shows on originals (including "Burglar Bop" and "Be Bop Tune") and reworkings of "Let's Face the Music and Dance" and "Angel Eyes." Garbo's Hat's CD rewards repeated listenings, making one wonder why they have not become much better known in the years since.    -- AllMusic review by Scott Yanow

Omianan is a closely collaborating ensemble of up and comers, who each contribute original compositions and arrangements to the band's eclectic repertoire. Free-time melodies and eccentric bass vamps meet vocal exploration, with lyrics penned by Sara Kim. Whether you call it "Alt jazz", or something entirely new, this group of young musicians is well worth checking out.
